"Be Still and Know That I Am God."

Do you believe that God speaks to you in scriptures?  that He has a message to tell? and that He will be heard?

I have, over the weekend and all day Monday, had a mantra playing through my mind's radio.  "Be still and know that I am God." 

It seems that I'm so busy, we are so busy, that every minute is scheduled and structured.  (Not that you can tell it from the sink overflowing with dishes, the toys scattered all over the floor, and the laundry piled here and there.  I have very little "down" time.  (I'm not complaining...it is just a fact.)  So, I have been really evaluating my time and how I spend it.  I have got to find time (other that my one Holy Hour on Friday nights) where I can be quiet and listen. 

So, Monday afternoon, when I took Katie to her violin lesson and DJ to TKD, I purposefully did not take any book/Kindle to read, no puzzle to solve, nothing.  My intent was to sit still, to be still.  I sat in my car and listened to a soft and meditative CD (St. Benedict's Abbey On a Musical Journey).  After about 15 minutes, I was fidgety and looking around for something to "do."  Ugh!  Can't I just be still for 30 minutes?

My eyes and heart landed on my Magnificat, tucked into my purse.  I decided to chant the prayers and psalms in the Magnificat for the day. (I'm in my car, no one can hear how bad I sound.)

Here is the psalm for Monday, February 7th from my Magnificat.

Psalm 46

 

God is for us a refuge and strength, 

a helper close at hand, in time of distress:

so we shall not fear though the earth should rock,

though the mountains fall into the depths of the sea, 

even though its waters rage and foam,

even though the mountains be shaken by its waves. 

The LORD of hosts is with us; 

the God of Jacob is our stronghold. 

 

The waters of a river give joy to God's city,

the holy place where the Most High dwells.

God is within, it cannot be shaken; 

God will help it at the dawning of the day.

Nations are in tumult, kingdoms are shaken:

He lifts his voice, the earth shrinks away.

 

The LORD of hosts is with us; 

the God of Jacob is our stronghold.

 

Come, consider the works of the Lord, 

the redoubtable deeds he has done on the earth.

He puts an end to wars over all the earth;

the bow he breaks, the spear he snaps.

He burns the shields with fire.

"Be still and know that I am God,

supreme among the nations, supreme on the earth!"

The LORD of hosts is with us; 

the God of Jacob is our stronghold.
